Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Research Security - Institutional Performance Objectives and Allocations

In Budget 2022, the Federal Government introduced new funding through the Research Support Fund (RSF) to further support the activities related to the indirect costs of research security and to support the National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships.

Ontario Tech received:

  • $44,612 in fiscal year 2023-2024; all funds will be allocated to management and administration of an institution's research enterprise.
  • $43,998 in fiscal year 2022-2023: all funds were allocated to management and administration of an institution's research enterprise.

To ensure institutional accountability to stakeholders, including researchers, community and industry partners, and Canadian taxpayers, the university is required to report the outcomes of the performance objectives annually.

    Research security Invest research security portion of RSF grant ($43,998) in cybersecurity and data management. Begin to identfy secure internal and external IT infrastructure and provide resources and assistance to researchers in security assessments and risk mitigation and data management plans.

    Conduct faculty and grad student survey in fy 2022-2023 to identify research data, security, and storage practices and needs. 

    Develop an asset map of internal and external data storage, sharing and cybersecurity options available to researchers in fy 2022-2023.

    Complete asset map of digital infra- structure available.

    The Research Security portion of the grant was invested in supporting the management and administration of the institution's research enterprise.
