Changes to Grants Officer Points of Contact

The Office of Research Services (ORS) is the central co-ordination point for Ontario Tech University’s research and innovation activities. ORS supports faculty members with the following support services: grants and award development, partnerships development, research contract negotiation and execution, intellectual property support and research ethics (animal and human) and safety services (radiation and biosafety).

The Office of Research Services would like to inform Ontario Tech University faculty members and the relevant administrative offices of the following changes to the points of contact.

Research Grant Support:

The Office of Services is pleased to welcome Amber Zapletal, who will be covering Ewa Stewart’s upcoming maternity leave. Starting May 20, please direct all your communications to the Grants Officer assigned to your faculty, as outlined below.

The Grants Development Team:

Joanne Hui, Grants Officer

Joanne received her BASc, MASc, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University.  Her PhD thesis focused on power electronics and maximum energy capture algorithms for wind energy systems.  Prior to joining Ontario Tech, she was a postdoctoral fellow at ePOWER at Queen’s University and a development engineer at SPARQ Systems Inc. She is passionate about research and development and is honored to support faculty in research grant development.

Raluca Dubrowski, Grants Officer

Raluca is passionate about research, knowledge translation/mobilization and research administration. She holds a PhD in Psychology from York University and brings 15 years of experience in research and research administration. Before starting at Ontario Tech, she worked as a Research Manager and Research Associate at SickKids, Grants Officer at Memorial University and a Lecturer at York University. Raluca also holds a knowledge translation professional certificate and is experienced in both knowledge translation research and practice.

Amber Zapletal, Grants Officer

Amber holds a BA in Geography and an MA in Sustainability Studies with a Collaborative Specialization in Aging Studies from Trent University. After graduating in 2018, Amber worked as the Research Coordinator for Trent's award-winning Rural Aging Research Program and as the Administrative Coordinator for the Trent Centre for Aging & Society. Her research focused on qualitative case studies of older volunteers and volunteer-based programs and their impact on the sustainability of aging rural communities. In 2022, Amber went on to earn a Research Administration Certificate from Mohawk College. Amber is excited to support the faculty at Ontario Tech with their research and grant needs.

Grant Development Services:

Comprehensive Review: Grants Officers can provide a comprehensive review of grant proposals when submitted at least one month before the agency deadline.

Administrative Review: Grants Officers will perform a mandatory administrative review to flag any high-level issues that need to be addressed prior to submission. Please submit your applications and the completed Research Grant Application Form a minimum of 10 business days before the agency deadline
