Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Share Your Research Story

Do you have a research story to tell? Whether you are a student working on your Undergraduate Research Award, a Research Chair, a PhD student who just wrote a new article or an esteemed faculty member, every research story deserves its moment to shine. These resources will empower you to communicate your research effectively.

  • Submit Your Story - Social Media and Web

    We are happy to share your story on our Research social media channels! Tag us in your posts or send them to us via direct message. If you do not have a social media account, complete the Share Your Research Story form to connect with us.

    Do you have an impactful story to share? Have you inspired change in the community? Will your research leave a lasting legacy? Ontario Tech wants to hear about your large-scale research endeavours. Fill out the Project Initiation Form and attach a draft document that details your findings, challenges and the human impact of your work. 

    Small stories will find their home on social media, but Ontario Tech will amplify the grand discoveries that can change the course of history in their web-based news stories. Together, we will celebrate the power of impactful research, one research story at a time.

  • Public Appearances & Events

    Are you presenting at an upcoming conference or hosting an event? Ontario Tech’s Communications and Marketing team has a variety of services to support you. Learn more about how to tell the Ontario Tech story through conference presentations and events. If you are giving the opening remarks, Student Life has developed a Land Acknowledgement resource.

    Order updated business cards and promotional items from the Stationery and Promotional eStore. You can also rent an Ontario Tech generic Zap banner or tablecloth from the Materials Inventory using the Borrow Request Form. Remember to add your event to the university’s event calendar to display the event and contact information on the main university website and various web pages.

    Are you presenting virtually or hosting an online event? Download a virtual background from the university’s Brand Folder (it will appear opposite to you, but it is correct for other attendees).

    Sharing slides or other meeting materials publicly? Remember that all public-facing material must align with Ontario Tech brand standards as per the Editorial Style Guide and meet university accessibility guidelines. The university has templates available for agendas, PowerPoint slides, letters and more (also available in Brand Folder).

    Utilise the Project Initiation Form if you require further event support, such as graphic design, marketing collateral, evites and more.

  • Media Training
    Did you receive a request for interview from the media? The Communications and Marketing team supports media inquiries and provides media training, which can be requested using the Project Initiation Form. The team also coordinates interviews with media, promotes our university’s experts, helps develop key talking points and serves as the university’s primary contact for local, regional, national and international media organizations.
  • Ontario Tech Expert Centre

    Researchers at Ontario Tech are encouraged to submit a profile to the Ontario Tech Expert Centre and keep their profile updated. This webpage serves as a resource for external media requests and partnership opportunities. The Expert Centre can be searched by name or subject area to connect you with the best contact for your needs.

  • Lab Social Media

    Are you hoping to create a social media profile for your lab but do not know where to start? Review the Ontario Tech resources on initiating a social media channel and email us for additional support. Facebook pages should begin with “Ontario Tech” and Instagram and Twitter handles should begin with @ot_.  

    If you already have a lab account started, tag us in your posts or send us your username(s) to be added to our spreadsheet of research accounts. Remember that all posts must align with Ontario Tech brand standards as per the Editorial Style Guide and meet university accessibility guidelines. Use #OTResearch in your posts to connect with us and share your research story!

  • Research Study Recruitment

    If you have Research Ethics Board approval to recruit through social media, we are happy to support you with recruiting participants for your research study. Tag us in your posts or email us the information to re-share. We can also run a targeted ad campaign through our social media profiles if you have funding available for this.
